Stornoway, when it was a burgh, had its very own lamp-post for the Provost. Whoever held the chain of office got to have the lamp-post outside their house. The last Provost was Sandy M******n and the lamp-post is currently outside his house on Newton Street. Since local government re-organisation in 1975 there has ben no Provost so presumably the lamp-post will stay there ad infinitum.
